The short version

Between
You, or your business, once verified, and Ostra LLC.
A line
One iPhone with one SIM, its proxy ports and its number, assigned to you alone.
Inbound only
Texts and calls come in. A line never texts or calls anyone; the one exception is Apple’s activation message, which an iPhone sends to Apple to activate iMessage.
Fees
$199 a month for each line, plus sales tax where it applies, by card through Stripe. Each line is billed up front from the day it is assigned to you, then monthly on that day. Setup is free; data, texts received, a new carrier IP, the apps, the API, MCP and the sandbox are included; calls received are 5 cents a minute.
Ending a line
Any time, from the dashboard. It ends at once, with no refund for the rest of its month, and its number is deleted.
Records
Connection records, never traffic content. Details in Privacy and records.

4.1Who these terms are between

These terms are between the customer, an individual or a business, and Ostra LLC, a California limited liability company ("Ostra"). "You" means the individual, or the business and the people who use its account. They apply once you are verified (stage 02 Verify) and you accept them for a line. The acceptable use policy is part of these terms.

If you are an individual, each line is a subscription that renews every month, at the price in 4.6, until you end it. Before a line is added, Ostra shows you its price and how it renews beside the consent you give, and keeps a record of that consent for 3 years or for 1 year after your account ends, whichever is longer. After, Ostra emails you an acknowledgment that says how to end the line. You can end a line online at any time (4.8). The calls charge changes from month to month with the calls your lines receive. Ostra emails you 7 to 30 days before a price changes, saying how to end the line, and a new price applies only from a renewal after that email.

For California users, under Civil Code 1789.3: the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs can be reached in writing at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or by telephone at (800) 952-5210.

4.2What a line is

  • One physical iPhone in Los Angeles with one SIM, assigned to you alone while you hold it.
  • Proxy ports on lax.gw.ostranetwork.com: an HTTPS proxy (300NN) that takes the line's username and secret, and SOCKS5 (100NN) and HTTP (200NN) ports that answer only source addresses you allowlist. NN is the line's slot. The HTTP port is unencrypted.
  • The line's number. Texts and calls to it reach you in the dashboard and the Ostra apps, by API and by webhook. Calls ring the Ostra iPhone app and the dashboard.
  • A number no other Ostra customer has held. Before a line is assigned, its new number waits 5 days, unless Ostra ends the wait early for that line, so that texts meant for whoever had the number before stop first. Some can still arrive.
  • A new carrier IP on request, at most once every 5 minutes and 24 times in any 24 hours (3.6).

4.3How Ostra runs a line

  • Traffic on a line leaves only through that phone's cellular connection. If it can't, the port closes rather than sending traffic another way. Ostra checks each line's exit network every 60 seconds.
  • Ostra blocks the ports and destinations in 3.5, and refuses connections that come from the places it names.
  • On a day no other text reaches a line, Ostra’s calls and messaging provider texts it one code for Ostra, to check that texts still arrive. That text never reaches you.
  • Your proxy secret is shown once. Ostra stores it only as a keyed hash and replaces it whenever a line is assigned to a new customer.
  • Ostra may restart, service or replace a phone. A line can be unavailable while that happens.

4.4What you agree to do

  • Follow the acceptable use policy.
  • Keep your sign-up details true (your legal name, your address and your mobile number), and tell Ostra when they change.
  • State each line’s basis truly when it is assigned, and attest again when it changes (2.4).
  • Keep secrets and API keys private, and revoke them when someone leaves your team.
  • Use each line for yourself alone, or for your business alone. Don't resell a line or share it with another person or business.
  • Never use a line, or let anyone use it, from a place 3.5 names, or on behalf of anyone on the US sanctions lists.
  • Take responsibility for all use of your lines, including by your software and agents.

4.5Ordering lines

  • You order lines from the dashboard or the API: how many, and on which carrier's network, or any.
  • There is no fixed number of lines you can hold. An order that would take you above 5 lines, counting the lines you hold and have on order, is checked by a person at Ostra first.
  • A line that is ready is assigned at once, and its first month is charged then. If too few are ready, your order waits its turn, first come, first served. Nothing is charged while it waits, and Ostra emails you when a line is ready.
  • You can cancel an order that is still waiting. If your card is declined or a payment is owed, the order pauses, nothing is charged, and it keeps its place until you resume it.

4.6Fees and payment

  • A line is $199 a month, charged up front for each month, plus sales tax where it applies. Setting a line up is free. Data through a line has no monthly limit, and a new carrier IP, texts received, the Ostra apps, the browser extension, the API, MCP and the sandbox are included.
  • You pay by card through Stripe. Adding a card charges nothing, and Ostra never sees the card number.
  • Each line is its own monthly subscription. Its first month is charged when the line is assigned to you, and it renews every month on that day until the line ends. Nothing is charged while an order waits for review or for a line.
  • Calls received are 5 cents a minute. Each call is counted from when Ostra answers it until it ends, rounded up to the next whole minute, and the whole account’s calls are billed on one monthly invoice, so that amount changes with the calls received.

If a line's payment fails, the line keeps working for 7 days. If it is still unpaid then, the line is suspended: its proxy credentials stop working and the Ostra apps are disconnected from it. An unpaid invoice for the account’s calls suspends every line. A person at Ostra turns a suspended line back on once Stripe shows it paid.

An unpaid invoice for a line that has ended holds back new lines until it is paid.

4.7Suspension

Ostra may suspend a line for a breach of these terms or the acceptable use policy, when a carrier or the law requires it, when a payment is still unpaid 7 days after it failed, or when Ostra can no longer confirm your verification. A suspended line keeps its number until the line ends.

If a carrier suspends a line or a customer, Ostra does not move that use to another line, account or carrier.

4.8Ending a line

You can end a line at any time, from the dashboard's Billing page or the API. It ends at once: its credentials stop working, its subscription ends with no refund for the rest of the month, and the phone is wiped before it serves anyone else.

Its number is deleted when the line ends: from then on Ostra’s servers keep no text sent to it and no caller’s number, the phone keeps its texts only until it is wiped, and Ostra releases the number at the carrier when it turns the line over. Ostra does not move it to you, hold it, or give it to another Ostra customer, so move any accounts that use the number before you end the line.

Closing your account ends every line it holds, the same way.

4.9Records and privacy

What Ostra keeps and for how long is in Privacy and records. Ostra never records the content of proxy traffic.

You appoint Ostra as your agent to receive the texts and calls that reach your lines, keep them and deliver them to you, as Privacy and records describes. You consent to Ostra keeping the connection records, texts and calls that page lists, and you make sure everyone who uses your lines knows Ostra keeps them. The services you test may text your lines’ numbers and call them with automated or prerecorded calls; you agree to receive those texts and calls there, as the one who asked for them.

4.10Warranties, liability and disputes

These terms do not promise a level of availability.

The service is provided as is and as available. To the extent the law allows, Ostra disclaims every warranty, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, and does not promise that a line will always be available or that every text or call will arrive.

To the extent the law allows, Ostra is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill. Ostra’s total liability for all claims about the service is limited to what you paid Ostra in the 12 months before the event the claim is about.

You will defend Ostra against, and pay for, claims by others that arise from use of your lines that breaks these terms or the acceptable use policy.

California law governs these terms, without regard to its rules on conflicts of law. Any dispute about these terms or the service is decided only in the state or federal courts located in California, and you and Ostra agree to their jurisdiction.

4.11Changes to these terms

When these terms change, the date at the top changes and customers are told by email before the change applies to them. Questions: hello@ostranetwork.com.
